Passport Requirements

Mediterranean and North Europe Travel:
  • United States and Canadian citizens must have valid passports and necessary Visas.
  • The expiration date of your passport must not occur within 6 months of the scheduled return date of travel. Naturalized U.S. citizens are advised to carry their naturalization papers. Aliens who are residents of the U.S. must carry their Alien Registration Card and passport. All others must have valid passports and necessary visas.
  • Please check current visa requirements with the appropriate embassies or consulates.
  • For guests on itineraries featuring Libya please be informed that as a result of inconsistent policies within the Libyan government, all guests that are of American nationality or of another nationality but born in the United States of America, may not be allowed to disembark at our scheduled port of call, Tripoli.
  • While the vessel has secured a blanket visa for all guests onboard; this "blanket visa” is not being accepted for entry for Americans.
  • If an American, you may want to consider the purchase of an independent visa. At present, this still does not guarantee entry to the country as an American guest.
  • Furthermore, if your passport contains an Israeli stamp you will not be allowed to go ashore.

  • The changes associated with entrance to Libya, as dictated by the Libyan officials, have been frequent and sporadic, and may change as your sail date approaches. As such, Costa Cruise Lines N.V. will continue to monitor these developments.
  • For guests on itineraries visiting Russia and Ukraine, who wish to tour independently in these countries (not on a Costa organized shore excursion) will need to obtain a VISA from the respective embassy/consulate prior to travel.

Caribbean Travel:

  • Effective June 1, 2009, the U.S. Government will require that all of our Guests, including U.S. citizens, be in possession of a valid passport when traveling on any Costa cruise. Please be aware that this effective date may be moved to an earlier date pending the U.S. Government's implementation of new identification cards (PASScards) that will provide a less expensive alternative form of documentation.   • While passports may not be required for Caribbean cruising they will be required for any air travel from the Caribbean as of January 8, 2007. If for any reason you must leave the ship mid-cruise you will be denied re-entry into the U.S. unless you possess a valid passport. Again for more information please visit www.travel.state.gov.

  • You are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel documents and for complying with Customs and Immigration requirements. Guest with out proper travel documents will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be given to any guest failing to bring such documentation.

South America Travel:

  • United States citizens must carry a valid passport and a visa for entrance into Brazil. Non-U.S. citizens must carry a valid passport and appropriate visas. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months after date of travel. All guests should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate to confirm their individual requirements for entry. Guests without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and will be subject to full cancellation penalty.

Transatlantic Travel:

  • United States and Canadian citizens must have valid passports. Aliens who are permanent resident of the U.S. must carry their Alien Registration Card and passport. All others must have valid passports and necessary visas. Guests without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and will be subject to full cancellation penalty.
